San Diego Cycling Public

San Diego Cycling Public is a site that brings together interviews with diverse perspectives on the bicycle: an expose of Italian steel bicycles, a preview of the San Diego Community Bicycle Center proposed for Liberty Station, the bicycle-inspired photography, The Miriello Collection and stories from classic Italian bicycle makers.

San Diego Cycling Public

San Diego Cycling Public is a Miriello initiative that explores and promotes the value of cycling to build and strengthen community. It began as a project for San Diego Design Week (SDDW) and still resides on the SDDW website here. Activists, politicians and makers in San Diego and Italy were interviewed about their unique perspectives on cycling. SDDW concluded with a Miriello guided design bike-tour of Barrio Logan. Cycling Public attracted willing support from a community ready to help shape it’s own future.

San Diego Cycling Public is the beginning of a larger goal, the remaking of building #191 in Liberty Station, CA into a regional center for all things cycling. A place we’ll make together! See the fuller vision here.

Graphic Designer Joel Sotelo collaborated with Miriello on the graphic program, Fabrizio Scippa on web and Aggie Aguilar on video production. Cafe Moto brought their support and coffee. As much as promoting citywide community, San Diego Cycling Public became an opportunity to experienced first-hand the goodwill of the San Diego design community itself.

35 people toured the San Diego neighborhood of Barrio Logan, CA by bicycle to visit designers, makers and cultural jewels. Ron Miriello of Miriello Grafico, guided the group as the closing event of San Diego Cycling Public, in coordination with San Diego Design Week 2020. Places visited included: Cafe Moto Roasters, The National/LWP Group. Vincent Metalworks & Christopher Puzio artist, Old Fashion Lumber, Chicano Park with Hector Villegas and La Vuelta lowrider club at Barrio Dogg. And thanks to @Kelly Davison and @Peachy for the contribution of this SDCP event video.
