Pisticci is a small mountain village in the Basilicata region of southern Italy. Long forgotten, it’s gone through a mini resurgence in recent years, after the provincial capital of Matera was deemed a UNESCO world heritage site. Pisticci is also the village my grandparents immigrated from in the early 1900’s. When I visit Pisticci they often mention I should go see their deserted neighbor Craco. But I never have. Recently, I came across this rather eery and mysteriously video on Craco. There’s something about the abandoned past that is oddly transporting and sadly beautiful. Here’s the video on Craco
