Rocks Flying Like Murmuring Birds
The lobby of The Merian Tower in San Diego, California called for something unique. A bold expression of the project premise tying the city block together - that art and science are two sides of the same whole. Murmuring flocks of birds or fish became the inspiration for a rock sculpture that would suspend hundreds of heavy rocks in a similar pattern as flying birds or weightless swimming fish. The contrast of heavy rocks and floating birds helps the piece appear different each viewing, stopping the mind for a brief moment. Fabrication and installation was entrusted to Tecture/San Diego.
