Printmaking with Parts

Wednesday nights became a time I started to look forward to. 4-hours in a smock surrounded by litho-presses, brayers and cans of inks. Just like back in college. A printmaking class where I could get back to testing some half-complete concepts. Could I print from some of the various mechanical parts and pieces I had been collecting over time. I was never sure why I need to have these parts, but their shapes and forms seemed to be more than just in service of a car or as a heat-sink for a radiator. So these weeks with Morgan Miller III, my kind and always supportive guide, allowed me to crank through 20-some experimental mono-prints and letter presses. Some worked, some died, some are still waiting to inhale their first breath. But man it was fun to wander again with analogy print, no destination and parts.

PartsPrinting

Wednesday night printmaking class was a time to try-out printing from the mechanical parts and pieces I’ve collected over time. Never sure why I held these parts so dear, but their shapes and forms seemed to hold some odd potential. These weeks with my supportive guide Morgan Miller III, became play-sessions to experimental with mono-prints, rubbings and letter presses. Some worked, some choked a slow death, some are still calling for help. But man it was fun to wander again with analog presses, viscous inks, no destination and found parts.
